Lizette Navarrete-Burks

Lizette Navarrete-Burks is an Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership at the University of Houston-Downtown. Lizette’s research interests center on equity-focused innovations in STEM education, issues to improve equitable access to high-quality opportunities for all students, and supporting school leaders to enact more socially just practices. She enjoys engaging in work committed to more equitable policies and practices in K12 and higher education. As a former science researcher and teacher, Dr. Navarrete-Burks was a state-wide STEM educational leader on equity-focused innovations. She led numerous education reform initiatives with the State of Kansas Department of Education, where she served as the STEM education administrator. At the national level, she served as co-principal investigator for a 13-state NSF STEM grant to advance equitable state systems in science education with the Council of State Science Supervisors. She chaired the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Standards Committee and was a teacher educator fellow with the Institute for Teachers of Color. She has presented on educational leadership, issues of equity, and STEM educational leadership at local, national, and international conferences and invited speaking engagements.
