Lisa May Norton

Lisa May Norton currently serves as the Dean of the College of Health Sciences and Education at Misericordia University. The college comprises 10 units including Health Sciences, Exercise Science, Teacher Education, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Sonography, Medical Imaging, Nursing, Physician Assistant and Speech Language Pathology and the university educates over 2000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Dr. Norton was previously a lead at Touro University California as the inaugural Associate Dean in the College of Education and Health Sciences and was promoted to Dean after a nationwide search ensued when the previous Dean stepped down. Prior to this she served as the Assistant Dean in the College of Education and Health Professions at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock overseeing a Student Success Center and Director of Graduate Student Recruitment and Retention at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Her scholarly and professional interests are heavily rooted in student success especially for underrepresented populations in higher education. Her dissertation from the University of Texas at San Antonio focused on Latinas in an Educational Leadership Graduate Program within the context of a Hispanic Serving Institution and their unique pathways to success. Her research is distinctive in that it is entrenched in post-modern and third space feminist theory and incorporates creative ways to present research in higher education including visual imagery, poetry and prose. Dr. Norton’s spare time is spent writing songs, poetry and stories, playing music, and recently in making visual imagery including mixed media pieces to represent her lifeview and resistance to sexism and racism in modern society as well as spending quality time with her husband John and their two pups Duncan and Lucy. She believes diverse citizens and viewpoints are a necessity to creating healthier communities and she is a local activist to fight for social justice and equity for all.
