Krystallia Halkia
is Professor Emeritus of Science Education at the University of Athens. She holds a B.S. (4-years degree) in Physics from the University of Thessaloniki (Greece), a PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of Sussex (England) and later a PhD in Science Education from the University of Athens (Greece). She teaches Science and Astronomy Education to postgraduate students (both primary and secondary pre-service science teachers. Her main research interests are: a) the transformation of the scientific content of the 20th century science theories into school knowledge; b) the design of teaching-learning sequences on several areas of science knowledge; c) the multimodal representation of science concepts; and d) the informal sources of science education. She has participated in a number of EU and national projects. For several years she is responsible for scientific literacy programs in Second Chance Schools (adults’ education). Also, she has published 4 books and more than 200 papers in international and national refereed journals as well as international and national refereed conference proceedings.
