José Floriano Pereira Lima Filho

José Floriano Lima Filho , Scholar and journalist Floriano Filho ( ) completed research studies at Nagoya University and postdoctoral fellowships on China-Latin America-Japan relations (University of Tokyo) and on energy security in Taiwan, where he was also a non-resident fellow at Chihlee University of Technology. He is a collaborating researcher at the universities of Brasilia and Sao Paulo (Asian Studies), a POC in Brazil for the Shandong Foreign Trade Vocational College, and a senior political journalist at the Brazilian Senate news agency, where he used to host a podcast on global issues. Previously, Dr. Filho served as deputy director at the Senate’s School of Government, where he gave short courses about China. His PhD thesis (University of Brasilia and fellowships at Johns Hopkins and the University of Tokyo) dealt with Japan-China strategic relations. He earned an MSc in Broadcast Journalism from Columbia University (NYC, 1991) and an MA with distinction in Communication Policies from the University of Westminster (Harrow, 2001) and, for about ten years, taught journalism, media, and ESL in public and private colleges in Brazil. As a Monbusho researcher, he studied Japan’s information society at Tsukuba and Hitotsubashi Universities (1991–1993). In 2006, he was a Reuters Foundation fellow at the University of Oxford, researching the global trade of digital content. From 2007 to 2009, he worked as a Washington, DC-based TV correspondent and was a Fulbright-APSA senior Congressional fellow in the US House of Representatives. Dr. Filho is an advisor to the Center for Democracy and Culture at the University of Oklahoma and was the sole Brazilian delegate to the 2019 Tibet Development Forum (second visit to Tibet).
