Joel José Puga Coelho Rodrigues

Joel J. P. C. Rodrigues [AAIA and IEEE Fellow] is a permanent professor of the Post-Graduation Program in electrical engineering at UFPI, with Senac Ceará (specialist consultant), Brazil, and Coordinator of the Intelligent Center at Fecomércio CE. He has been a Professor at Inatel, Brazil, an aggregated professor at the Univ. of Beira Interior (UBI), Portugal and visiting professor at UNIFOR, Brazil. He received the Aggregation in Computer Science and Engineering from UBI, the Habilitation in computer science and engineering from the Univ. Mulhouse Haute-Alsace, France, a PhD degree in Computer Science and Engineering and an MSc in Management degree from UBI, and a five-year BSc degree (licentiate) in Computer Science and Engineering from the Univ. of Coimbra, Portugal. He was the Director of the MSc degree on Computer Science and Engineering (UBI) [2009-2013], the Founder and Director of the Post-graduation ICT for TELCO (Information and Communication Technologies for the Telco Sector), in cooperation with Portugal Telecom and Syone [2012-2013].His main research interests include sensor networks and Internet of Things (IoT), eHealth technologies, vehicular communications, mobile and cloud computing. He has authored or co-authored over 1200 publications in refereed international journals (more than 715 publications), conferences, book chapters, 3 books, 2 patents, and 1 ITU-T Recommendation (standard); with more than 39400 citations and H-Index 104. He is a Distinguished Researcher by CNPq (Brazil), Highly Cited Researcher (ISI Web of Science), an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer [2018-2021], a Past-Director for Conference Development - IEEE ComSoc Board of Governors, Technical Activities Committee Past-Chair of the IEEE ComSoc Latin America Region Board, a Past-Chair of the IEEE ComSoc TC on eHealth and IEEE ComSoc TC on Comm. Software, the representative of the IEEE ComSoc on the IEEE Biometrics Council, member of the Steering Committee and Publications co-Chair of the Life Sciences Technical Community.He is or was the Leader of the Project IoT-based solutions for smart homes (CNPq), MosquIot (FAPEMIG), the IT Projects VDTN@Lab, BodySens, EcoSense, several projects with SAPO (Portugal Telecom), and the Leader of several research projects on IoT at Inatel, the NoE Euro-NF SJR Project VDTN (Vehicular Delay Tolerant Networks). He is or was member of several European or national projects (NoE Euro-NF, NoE Euro-NGI, NoE Euro-FGI, AAL4ALL - Ambient Assisted Living for All, eLearning 3.0, Moggy, etc.). Joel was member of the stakeholders group for the FI-STAR Project and is a Management Committee member of the ICT COST Action IC 1304, both funded by the European Union. Joel has also experience on projects evaluation belonging to the evaluation boards of the Brazilian CNPq, Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), Innovation Agency from the Portuguese Government, and European projects evaluation on calls promoted by the European Union.Joel is the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of E-Health and Medical Communications and the Journal of Multimedia Information Systems (Korea Multimedia Society) [2014-2018]. He belongs to several Editorial Boards of many reputed qualified journals (IEEE IoT, IEEE Systems, IEEE Wireless Communications, etc.).He was the Steering Committee Chair of the IEEE HEALTHCOM [2014-2021], and has been general chair and TPC Chair of many international conferences, including IEEE ICC/GLOBECOM. He received several awards, including numerous best paper awards (more than 20), as the 2014 IEEE ComSoc Multimedia TC Outstanding Leadership Award, and recognition awards for his leadership in many conferences and other recognition awards (mainly, from IEEE ComSoc).He is a member of the Internet Society, a senior member of ACM and an AAIA IEEE FELLOW.
