Bernie Garrett
Dr Bernie Garrett PhD, BA (Hons), P.G.C.E.A., R.N.
Bernie Garrett is an Associate Director, Undergraduate Programs at the University of British Columbia, School of Nursing. He has a PhD in information Science, specializing in education and artificial intelligence, and a range of teaching and clinical experience from medical and renal nursing practice in the U.K. Prior to his current appointment he was a Department Head at Oxford Brookes University School of Health and Social Care.
For the last five years has been working in the field of educational technology particularly in the use of simulation, e-portfolios and social networking to support education. He also publishes in the field of scientific philosophy, and particularly its application in professional healthcare. His research interests are in the application of AI techniques in education, educational use of e-learning to support clinical education.
He was the recipient of the 2007 at the University of British Columbia Spencer Award for Information Technology Innovation, for his work on developing a mobile PDA-based e-portfolio for students, and the CRNBC Award of Excellence in Nursing Education in 2009.
