Apostolia Pastra

Dr. Apostolia Pastra is a collaborating teaching staff member at Frederick University Cyprus, within the Distance Learning Master's program in Special Education (MEd), teaching in the thematic unit DLSPEN511 'Art as a therapeutic means in Special Education,' offered by the Department of Education Sciences. She is a Psychopedagogue, a graduate of the School of Education at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with a PhD from Panteion University of Athens in the Department of Psychology. Additionally, she underwent postgraduate training at the Department of Philosophy of the University of Athens and completed her Postdoc at the University of Peloponnese in the Department of Theater Studies. Dr. Pastra has extensive professional experience in the field of Special Education since 1993. She works with children with pervasive developmental disorders through art and has specialized in structured teaching programs of Special Education. She collaborates with mental health units and cultural institutions, organizing experiential behavioral art workshops in museum spaces for children and adults of both typical development and mental disorders. Her research interest and publishing activity lies in detecting the role of symbols, through artistic exploratory dramatization, in activating the expression of emotions of people with ASD and mental disorders.
