Aleksei Bondarenko
Aleksei Bondarenko
is a seasoned expert with over 15 years of extensive experience in international trade facilitation, Single Window development, customs modernization, and the implementation of international standards. He has a proven track record in strategy and roadmap development, applying digital technologies to trade, and contributing to global customs and trade facilitation initiatives including UN/CEFACT and the World Customs Organization (WCO). Currently, Aleksei serves as a Project Consultant with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in Bangkok, where he focuses on cross-border paperless trade initiatives and customs modernization in Central Asia. He also holds the position of Vice Chair of the Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (UN/CEFACT), where he coordinates domain activities and contributes to key recommendations on Single Window interoperability and digital trade facilitation. Previously, Aleksei worked with prominent international organizations such as the International Trade Centre (ITC), the World Bank Group, GIZ, and the Eurasian Economic Commission. His roles have encompassed conducting feasibility studies, business process analyses, and assessments to support trade facilitation reforms across Eurasia and Asia-Pacific. As an academic, he is an Associate Professor at MGIMO University, where he lectures on digital economy, e-commerce, and international trade procedures. Aleksei holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the Russian Customs Academy, where his dissertation focused on business process analysis of export-import procedures and Single Window implementation. He also possesses extensive certifications including Yale School of Management’s Digital Strategy Programme and professional training in business process analysis and European Union law. Fluent in English and a native Russian speaker, Aleksei combines strong analytical skills with practical experience to drive digital transformation and regulatory harmonization in international trade, with a particular focus on improving transparency, efficiency, and interoperability in customs and trade systems worldwide.
